De recente verdeling van de vermogenscomponent ‘kapitaal’ in OECD-landen

Veel literatuur over de vermogensverdeling categoriseert vermogensactiva-componenten. Dit artikel maakt het ongebruikelijke onderscheid tussen ‘kapitaaleigendomsactiva’ (verwijzend naar eigendom in ondernemingen), en overige vermogensactiva. De reden is dat kapitaaleigendomsactiva gepaard gaan met potentiële of actuele economische macht – in de zin van macht om de politiek van ondernemingen significant te beïnvloeden. Dit artikel past dit onderscheid toe op 24 OECD-landen die hierover uniforme data rapporteren. Voor het gemiddelde van deze landen tegen 2019 1 blijkt dat de top 10% huishoudens 51% van het netto vermogen en 68% van de financiële activa bezitten, maar 85% van de kapitaaleigendomsactiva. Voor individuele landen varieert het laatste cijfer van 63% (Griekenland) tot 97% (Litouwen). De USA nadert de laatste met 94%. (Het Nederlandse cijfer is geschat op 91%.)
